Smith Joins Hansell & Levy in Supporting Family Farms
SALEM, Ore. – Today, Representative Greg Smith (R-Heppner) voted yes on SB 498 in House Revenue Committee. SB 498 creates an exclusion (up to $15 million of property value) from the Estate Tax for natural resource property (farm, forestry, or fishing) that is transferred to family members because of a person’s death. Rep. Smith is the ranking member of the committee and a sponsor of the bill, which now heads to the the House floor for a final vote.
“SB 498 will help keep rural farms in the family by reducing and in some cases eliminating the estate-tax,” said Representative Smith (R-Heppner) “this a win for the agriculture industry in Eastern Oregon and I was proud to join Senator Hansell and Representative Levy who chief sponsored the bill.”
Representative Greg Smith is currently serving his twelfth term as a State Representative, making him the longest serving member in the Oregon Legislature, as well as the 4th longest serving State Representative in Oregon History. He holds a gavel as the Co-Chair of the Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on General Government. Representative Smith also serves as the Co-Vice Chair of the full Joint Ways and Means Committee.
